Can my Ecospace® building be used for any purpose?
It most certainly can, anything from a compact work space to an educational building or even a full house. Flexible modular or bespoke, the possibilities are endless.
Why an Ecospace building?
Unlike most modular building companies, Ecospace is run by professional architects who are passionate about contemporary design, quality and sustainability. Innovative solutions are explored using a hybrid of modern methods of construction – eliminating the problems of cost and time overruns of a traditionally procured building, not to mention quality.
Can I have my Ecospace building designed to my specific requirements?
Naturally. As an architectural practice, we know everyone's idea of their perfect Ecospace is different. We can design whatever you want – whether it's an Ecospace garden studio with a shower room or mini-kitchen, a holiday retreat, a house or something totally unique, just give us a call. There are thousands of possibilities.
Does my Ecospace building need planning permission?
This depends on the size and use. Take a garden studio, for example. In most cases, the answer is simply ‘no' – you can order your Ecospace building and have it erected without any hassle at all. However, in some circumstances, such as if your Ecospace building exceeds certain size limits or if you live in designated area with planning resrictions, planning permission may be required. You don't have to worry though – as an architectural practice, we can carry out any planning applications for you.
What's ‘eco' about my Ecospace building?
Pretty much everything. Sustainable wood structure and cedar cladding, sedum roof option, environmentally-friendly low energy lighting and heating, high performance insulation and Scandinavian double glazing. And if you use your Ecospace building as your workplace, it'll do wonders for your carbon footprint too. We use natural materials and avoid where possible the use of any wet trades, meaning your Ecospace building doesn't require any decoration inside or out.
How big is my Ecospace garden studio?
The short answer is, however big you want it. Standard external sizes of the studios are 2.1m x 2.8m, 4.0m x 3.4m, 5.2m x 3.8m, 6.4m x 3.8m and 7.6 x 3.8m, but if you have a specific size or shape in mind, we can create it for you.
Why is my Ecospace garden studio better than an extension?
Hmmm… Where do we start? Firstly, Ecospace provides you with the flexibility of being detached from your main living space – perfect for work. It costs less than a house extension and is completed in a fraction of the time. What's more, your Ecospace building has a fixed price so there'll be no ‘extra costs' from builders half way through. Ecospaces are built to modern housing standards with full high-performance double glazing and insulated to extremely high standards for all round comfort and security. Basically, they're engineered to last.
What kind of foundation will my Ecospace studio need?
Providing the site is relatively level, our engineered system eliminates the need for a conventional concrete base and foundations for the garden studios. Your Ecospace building stands on adjustable steel shoes that bear on pre-cast concrete pads on a compacted sub-base. In other words, you won't have to dig your whole garden up. For larger buildings, the foundations may vary, however our structural engineer is available to design this if necessary.
What about heating, lighting and electrics?
A super-efficient low energy under floor heating system or optional air source heating are installed ready for use together with low energy lights and power points. Data points are also provided for a fully functional, state-of-the-art work space, of course.
How long do I have to wait for my Ecospace building?
Not long, depending on the type of project and whether planning permission is required. For example a studio is usually 8-12 weeks. The average installation time for a studio, subject to site conditions, is around 5 days.
Is my Ecospace building guaranteed?
It most certainly is. Every Ecospace building is guaranteed for 5 years as standard with a 10 year guarentee option. Although, as they're built to modern housing standards, they're made to last a lifetime.
How much will my Ecospace building cost?
Obviously, price all depends on what you have. We can tailor the specification of your building to suit your budget. Prices for the garden studios start at £10,000 + VAT + delivery for our compact models.
As architects, do you work on other types of projects?
We certainly do, as Ecospace is managed by architects who also run a chartered architectural practice, we are experienced at working on a diversity of projects in the residential, leisure and commercial sectors so please contact us should you wish to discuss any particular projects.
